Lab-grown diamond manufacturers in India
India grows most of the world's CVD diamonds and cuts most of its lab-grown stones. Here is how the industry is laid out, how Indian growers sell, and how to check one from abroad.
Where the industry is
Surat, Gujarat is the centre. Most Indian CVD reactors are in and around the city, alongside the cutting and polishing works that have handled most of the world's diamonds for decades. The Surat Diamond Bourse is here too.
Mumbai is the trading and export centre: the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Bandra-Kurla Complex and the SEEPZ special economic zone house exporters' offices, banks and secure logistics. Many growers grow in Surat and sell from Mumbai.
India's strength is that growing and cutting happen in one place. A buyer can specify a size, colour and cut and have it grown and polished by the same company.
How Indian growers sell
- Direct trade sales. Quotes by email or WhatsApp, often per stone with a lab report, or per carat for parcels of small sizes.
- Trade portals. Larger growers run stock portals behind a login. You apply with trade references and are approved before you see prices.
- Through platforms. Many list stock on trade marketplaces, where you buy through the platform rather than from the grower.
- Offices abroad. Some have offices in New York, Dubai, Hong Kong or Antwerp for local delivery and memo.
Expect the grower to ask who you are: a business name, address and trade references are normal before a first shipment.
How to check one from abroad

| Export licence | Ask for the Import Export Code (IEC) issued by DGFT |
| Trade membership | GJEPC member directory, if the supplier claims membership |
| Factory | Live video call on the growing floor |
| Stones | Report numbers on the lab's own website |

Payment and shipping
Most Indian exporters work on a proforma invoice and payment by bank wire (T/T), usually in US dollars. Established buyers may get part-advance or memo terms. Letters of credit are possible for large orders.
Diamonds leave India through secure, insured logistics firms rather than ordinary courier, with an export declaration under HS heading 7104 (7104.21 for rough, 7104.91 for polished). Lab-grown goods fall outside the Kimberley Process, but the invoice must say they are laboratory-grown.
